Leaning In

Leaning in

I am currently totally leaning in to work and my career. I am finalizing a number of research projects this year and hustling to get funding for the next set of projects. My daughter is at an age where she has a lot of activities and her pick-up times are a bit later – I also feel a bit less guilty about leaving her for a work trip than when she was smaller.

So, what does leaning in look like at the moment for me:

  • Apply for all the funding.
  • Actively look for opportunities for funding and collaboration.
  • Step up in technical committees to take on a more visible leadership role.
  • Travel more, both for conferences and research activities.
  • Think strategically about where I want my career to go next, and what steps are necessary to achieve this.

And so, effort is going in, extra hours are going in, and I’m showing up and trying to move everything forward – much more than I have done in the past years. Let’s see if all this hustlin’ and bustlin’ takes me anywhere.

What do you do when you need to lean in?
