My Current Form Of The Weekly Review

My current form of the weekly review

I used to have rather elaborate methods to review my week and month, partially based on the “Mastering your PhD book” (which I would still recommend, especially for younger researchers!).

However, as my methods for planning my time and tasks have become more streamlined, I have simplified my weekly review.

What I do now on Friday afternoons is the following:

  • Check my calendar for the upcoming week. I typically will have timeslots overlapping, for example a meeting at a time that I planned to do a certain research task. So, I’ll be shuffling things around or postponing them to the next week.
  • Make my list of week priorities in the categories Work (writing, research, teaching, service, admin, blog), Self, and Relationships. Put my Work priorities for the week on my whiteboard.
  • Check personal activities, send the logistics of the week for my daughter to the chatgroup we have with our family to see who picks up our daughter when and from where.

That’s about it – simple, quick, and just enough effort to keep things from falling apart!

How do you check in on a weekly basis?
